“Preserved Wood Foundations” with Craig Hostland, AHI, P, Eng.

PWF foundations are one of the most litigious elements for a home inspector because they can easily be missed or misrepresented both in a good or a very bad way. The seller doesn’t usually know, their agent doesn’t, and your client might just freak out if they knew. So you need to know a lot about a PWF foundation, the pros and the cons, to ensure your client is given an unbiased and accurate assessment. Too many think they have to run away fast, and there are still too many failed PWF foundations out there, like traps ready to clamp down on another unsuspecting home inspector.

You may have never known the home you inspected contained a fully wooded foundation. I know, because I get to confirm them for sellers and lawyers after the fact. You might have even been informed you missed one; maybe even sued.

This technical seminar will look at the essential but hidden elements of a preserved wood foundation (PWF), what you should be looking for and why they can be that hidden defect you didn’t know you missed until the lawyer’s letter arrives, and what defensive language works and what doesn’t work.
