Successful completion of an approved home inspection course, with field work, or equivalency verification will earn you the AHI designation.

HIABC supports both inspectors and consumers by maintaining strong and consistent industry standards. All new members complete:
Report Review
Submit one residential home inspection report for a brief review. This ensures alignment with HIABC’s Scope of Inspection and helps maintain consistent quality across our membership.
On-Site Orientation Session
Take part in a one-time field session with an HIABC inspector to complete an inspection and ensure your reporting aligns with HIABC standards. This practical session offers a smooth introduction to how HIABC members work and report in the field.
Membership Eligibility
and Application Process
If you’re certified in another province or country, HIABC welcomes equivalency applicants. You may be eligible to skip some steps depending on your credentials.
Required Documents
If you are a licensed home inspector in BC with at least one year of fee-paid inspection experience, you qualify for membership. To join, please submit:

- Proof of current BC home inspection license
- Completed application form with supporting documents, which may include:
- Prior education
- Written exam results
- Field training details
- Practical testing results
- Loss letter from previous insurer (if applicable)
Upon acceptance, new members will:

- Complete a review of HIABC and Consumer Protection BC report requirements
- Successfully complete HIABC’s Report Writing Course
- Attend an on-site orientation session and submit a sample inspection report
This process ensures that all members meet the same high standards while respecting your professional experience and background.
